Despite the unresolved disasters here in Japan my solo show has opened. I really appreciate Mr. Shiraishi and Ms. Kubota for their dicision, Mr. Saito for his support as my manager, Ms. Igarashi, Mr. Komuta, Suga, Hiramine, Awada for their technical support, and all the SCAI's staff for their help. I can not thank you enough.
As a result of this timing, the opening offers an opportunity to once again question what role should art play in the world and the meaning of my personal involvement in art.
In the context of this tragic situation, art is powerless; this is what I initially felt. My next thought was that art must evolve alongside larger and deeper currents.
I became newly aware of the value of making art and realized the importance of continuing on, as much as possible, from a stance where I simply make work in a manner similar to the natural passing of the seasons.
